Introduction
SI Mechanical is a computer application that offers a wide
range of productivity tools and annotation capabilities for
mechanical engineers, designers, and drafters working with
AutoCAD. SI Mechanical supports the System International (SI)
units based on the metric system as well as inch units.
Overview of SI Mechanical
SI Mechanical conforms to various American Society of
Mechanical of Engineers (ASME) and International Standards
Organization (ISO) standards used to govern the creation of
mechanical part and machine drawings. These standards are built
into the application, eliminating the chore of setting routine
variables such as layers, scales, text height, dates, and so on.
All standard drawing tags are provided - geometric tolerancing,
surface finish symbols, welding symbols, and more. Drawing
formats can be set to any standard sheet size and scale.
Layering conventions are built into SI Mechanical, with many
of the usual layer changes done automatically. Layer names,
colors, and linetypes used by SI Mechanical can be permanently
revised. The flexible nature of SI Mechanical lets you adjust the
built-in layering conventions to suit your specific needs.
Engineers and designers have quick access to many standard
parts. Parametric hardware and hole libraries contain a wide
variety of types and sizes. Every type and size can be drawn in
2D or 3D mode.
SI Mechanical
is designed for use throughout the product
design and drafting cycle. Design Pacifica will continue to
enhance and improve SI Mechanical while meeting industry and
international standards.
About This Manual
This manual explains how you use SI Mechanical, the computer
application that offers a wide range of productivity tools and
annotation capabilities for mechanical engineers, designers, and
drafters working with AutoCAD.
- Introduction includes Design Pacifica's introduction
to the SI Mechanical software.
- Getting Started lists the required equipment and tells you
how to install the software.
- Lessons One through Six contain instructive tutorials.
- The next sections are specific guides to the
various commands and features which SI Mechanical offers.
- The last sections include a command reference, system libraries and
variables, the customization of SI Mechanical, plotting
and drawing interchange, revision history of the program,
and information on SI Mechanical's menu structure.
Command Entry
In general, SI Mechanical commands operate in much the same
way as AutoCAD commands. You can enter commands at the AutoCAD
Command: prompt or select them from the SI Mechanical menu. SI
Mechanical responds to all of the appropriate AutoCAD system
variables. For instance, if you set DIMDEC (DIMension DECimal
places) to 2, and DIMCLRT (DIM CoLoR Text) to 3 (green), all new
symbols created by SI Mechanical that display dimension text will
show real numbers with two decimal places in the color green, the
same as AutoCAD dimensions.
